When the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) opened in Sepang, many travellers experienced difficulties in getting to the airport as it was at least an hour’s drive away from the city. Couple that with unscrupulous and unreliable taxi drivers and traveling from KL City to KLIA was actually quite expensive and long. However, that’s something of the past now with the KLIA Express. If you are a visitor to Kuala Lumpur, read on how you can get from KLIA to KL City in just 28 minutes!

How To Get From KLIA to KL City In Just 28 Minutes

The KLIA Express is a high speed train that runs between KLIA and KL Sentral (The City’s main train hub). Operated by the Express Rail Link, it is a comfortable 28 minute journey on a clean and efficient train service.

Tickets are bought at KL Sentral for RM35 one way and return tickets (valid for 3 months) are available for RM70. To promote the usage of the KLIA Express, the company should actually offer a slight discount on return tickets!

If you are flying Malaysia Airlines, Emirates, Royal Brunei Airlines or Cathay Pacific, you have the added services of checking in early at KL Sentral itself after you purchase your ticket. Minimum check in time at KL Sentral is 2 hours before your flight.

The KLIA Express runs every 15 minutes on every hour and quarter of the hour from both KLIA and KL Sentral. The airconditioned cabins are often clean with sufficient luggage space. Small TV screens play the news and latest happenings at Starhill Gallery, the YTL-owned shopping centre which owns the KLIA Express service.

Additional porter services are provided for free should you have large pieces of baggage that you might require assistance with.

Difference Between KLIA Express and KLIA Transit

Another way to get to KLIA from KL Sentral is via the KLIA Transit. This train is slightly cheaper for Malaysian residents at RM24.50. However, it makes 3 quick stops at Bandar Tasik Selatan, Cyberjaya & Putrajaya and Salak Tinggi, making the total travel time to be 36 minutes instead of the 28 minutes with KLIA Express.

It is a good option for those who wish to save some money and have some time to spare for the additional stops.

Current Promotions With KLIA Express
