Review of P1 Wimax Internet Connection Speed

I’ve been looking out for a broadband provider for a while and was trying to find some alternatives to TMNet’s Streamyx as I had heard some issues users were grappling with their connection and coverage. So when I heard about the launch of the Wimax by P1, I was pretty keen to check out what they could offer.
P1 Wimax
P1, owned by Green Packet Sdn Bhd, is currently the first company in Malaysia to launch the Wimax coverage services. They certainly have the competitive edge over their other 3 competitors who are also holding the Wimax license but have yet to launch their package and services.
Wimax, in summary, is an acronym for Worldwide Interoperability of Microwave Access which provides internet coverage for a wide area especially in metropolitan areas. It promises higher connection speeds compared to most broadbands or internet connections which make it a popular choice for internet users.
Currently, the P1 Wimax coverage in the Klang Valley is as far ranging as the KL City Centre, all the way to USJ and even Klang. All across Malaysia, Wimax can be found in states such as Johor Bahru and Penang to provide optional broadband coverage to internet users all around Malaysia. You can check the coverage for your specific area here or with any P1 booths which are available in most shopping centres.
When I checked, I was sad to hear that my area was not in the P1 coverage but because it just skimmed the coverage area, I was given a demo P1 modem to test!
Read about my review of the P1 Wimax coverage below!
Review of P1 WIMAX Services
I stay in a high-rise condominium and was advised by the P1 staff that connection is usually best from 15th floor and below due to their tower signals. However, depending on your luck and proximity to the tower, you might still be able to get a good connection from a higher floor although you are not in their coverage area.
The modem came in a little purple cloth bag with their P1 Wimax logo.
The P1 modem is a cute little fella with 3 blinking lights on top. It connects to a normal electricity input source and just requires a connection output cable to connect to your laptop. No messy telephone lines or wires to deal with!

There are 3 little lights that take approximately 30 seconds to start up. The middle light determines the connection and will blink red or green, depending on the availability of the coverage.
Fast Wimax Connection
All I had to do was to hook up the connection cable to my laptop and I was almost instantly connected without having to go through any broadband connection or dialing in! For an area out of coverage, I was actually surprised to see rather high connection speeds and was advised that their speeds can reach up to 1.24 Mbps, depending on the package you take. That is the fastest speed available in the market at the moment!
Problems with P1 Wimax
However, I found the signal a little erratic which could be due to the fact that I wasn’t exactly in the coverage area. My Gmail, for example, had some trouble loading although it stabilised after a while. Depending on the location of the P1 tower, the connection also varied from various parts of the house and performed best when the modem was placed close to the window.
I also found that the P1 modem may not work if you are using a work laptop where you do not have permission to install applications. This is because the P1 modem will actually install a little application in your laptop or computer to enable it to connect so you will have to ensure that your computer allows installation of applications.
P1 Wimax Packages
Currently, there are 3 packages available for sign-up which vary from RM49, RM99 and RM199 per month for speeds of 400Kbps, 1.2 Mbps and 2.4 Mbps, respectively. P1 was previously running a promotion which provided a free modem for every package sign-up. Unfortunately, this promotion has ended and modems now have to be purchased at RM199 for a 1 year contract. However, if you sign up for a 2 year contract, you will still be given the modem for free.
So will I sign up for the P1 Wimax?
Well, I do have some concerns about their connection speeds as my area is out of their current coverage area and the stability of their connection over a prolonged period. However, should your area be within their coverage area, I would recommend P1 Wimax. It is incredibly easy to set up and charges a reasonable price for the speeds it currently provides.
Update on P1 Wimax: Based on the recent comments, it does seem like P1 Wimax is still in its stabilisation phase and many users have complained of erratic connection speeds and poor customer service. You might want to wait for a while to see how this stabilises over the next few months before committing to a package.

Use Maxis broadband. No need to shift the modem about.
February 6th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
Thanks Chris…however, I found the Maxis Broadband speeds a little slow for the price they charged!
February 11th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
if u r near to maxis tower then u can get good speed.. but if u r not.. then will b very slow
but if p1 wimax hav wider coverage then should b the best in m’sia ^^ for more inquires about p1 can ask me..example: whether your hse is in coverage anot..coz i’m working with 1 of the reseller for p1 wimax xD
February 16th, 2009 at 6:50 am
Oh really? Thanks very much
I found the speed quite good even though I wasn’t near the Maxis Tower!
February 17th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
bro,
i have subscribe wimax about 3weeks. my package is 1.2mbps but when i test my download speed i get not more than 500kbps.
y this can happend? is it because technical or wat?
my home at seksyen 7 shah alam and still in coverage.
i get static green light meaning the signal that i get is strength.
i have doing the report n still wait for their respons…
have any idea?
February 18th, 2009 at 11:30 am
Hi I’m not sure. It would be best to check with the P1 Wimax customer service.
February 22nd, 2009 at 1:57 pm
i have doing the report but they told me that the download speed i get is ok..still in their target..
whats the hell of their target???
1.2mbps package but get500kbps is ok?
February 24th, 2009 at 4:32 am
500kb/s or 500kB/s?
if it’s 500kb/s, then that’s the average speed for 1mbps (though i must say that it should be a bit high because it’s 1.2mbps)
if it’s 500kB/s, then it’s supercalifragilisticexpialidociously fast for 1mbps!
February 24th, 2009 at 8:28 am
Hi Nic – Am not very tech savvy but I think it should be 500kb/s!
February 26th, 2009 at 11:46 pm
Hey i am thinking of switching my streamyx combo to pI wimax at Rm49..Will there be any difference in term of internet speed?? sry i am not tech savvy so i am need help here.. Thanks
February 27th, 2009 at 11:31 am
Hi Sean – I would suggest that you contact P1 directly to verify this with them
March 3rd, 2009 at 5:57 pm
I went to their flagship center just to check things out (keypoh abit heehee). and i saw their USB Dongle! It looks very very nice, sleek ( the design reminds me of Apple / Mac products). So, i guess i will wait till they launch the USB Dongle and hope the package is cheaper then my current Maxis USB package. (cross fingers..)
March 4th, 2009 at 10:17 am
Hi Jensen – Ooh I did hear that their dongole was coming out in April. Hopefully they package it with some good deals and I’ll definitely consider signing up!
March 5th, 2009 at 2:20 am
sasa.. u work with p1 right? how come i can’t connect? i live in section 16, shah alam.. i need to move around my room and was able to connect but i will be maybe 2meters away from my laptop with the modem close to my stomach.. from this i can conclude that not all area of shah alam is covered. but this post said that the author was able to connect even if the area is not covered.. how’d u do that?? thank god that i havent subscribe to p1 yet.. i just borrow my friend’s to test whether my place is covered or not.. i wonder if there’s coverage in vista angkasa near the university LRT station..
March 6th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
i’ve been using wimex since 3months ago and it was smooth and fast, but recently about more than a week now it has been slow down and very unstable with connection. I mean really lagged and hang on the page without anything! i have try to call in 1300 800 888 and it has been 2 days always busy without anyone to pick up my call, so at last today i manage to get someone and i told him my problem so, he ask about my id and name and ask me to hold on, but when he get back to me the line just cut off, i try to call back but again the line always busy with no one answering.
I was wondering why does the connection get so bad? is this a scam? i am so furious! i am paying a rm$99 per month and get nothing?
March 10th, 2009 at 9:43 am
Hi Furious Guy – Thanks for your comment. It does sound a bit worrying if P1 is treating its customers this way. Did you manage to get hold of a customer service in the end?
March 11th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
hi pinkelle thanks for reply, yes i did and they ask me to reset the modeem but no different at all. So, i go back to the dealer where i purcase it they girl who wasn’t so helpfull at all with some stupid tone asking me “complaint to wimex main branch la, let them know la ” wew! what a service?? i think we all somehow just being abused by them but anyway, yesterday i manage to ask a P1 road show counter and what an incident he was the owner of this dealer where i bought it,so he tell me to go back to his shop to test for a day beside they ask me if i have paid my bills? doesnt this mean if i late making the payment then they will slowdown my connection??? anyway, i never ever late pay for any bills at all and pay my wimex bill through the dealer where i purcase it. Anyway, since the complaint to him and today i have my line working ok, but not as smooth as before but at least its moving.
I will see if again the line slowdown then i will bring it back to dealer and let them try and see what i “meant” slow and no connection.
I will keep you update.
thanks
peecee
March 12th, 2009 at 8:02 am
Hi Furious Guy – Thanks for the update to all the readers. Do let me know how your line is working!
If the service doesn’t keep up, I would seriously reconsider signing up for the Wimax!
March 15th, 2009 at 1:18 am
hi pinkelle,
trust me sign up something else. LOL… I am not trying to say bad things about them but thats the fact i am facing now and you wont know how dissapointed i am ..sigh…
March 23rd, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Hi Furious Guy – Thanks for your updates. I guess its best to consider Streamyx now!
March 24th, 2009 at 9:40 am
hello guys/girls… i’ve been using maxis broadband and also i’m using W1MAX as well. the difference between these two is the speed. for me w1max is more to home-use (within coverage) and maxis broadband is portable and u can bring it wherever u want within coverage too. my usage of internet is more to downloading songs for my DJ use and video streaming. example a song file which the size is 20MB, using maxis broadband it took me 20 minutes to complete the dloading while i use w1max to download it took me only 2-3 minutes for a 20MB song. so u imagine how fast is w1max? yes, lately w1max speed is slow, this is because they are upgrading system in certain areas so that’s why we have the speed problem. but nowadays w1max gone fast again. i am very satisfied with w1max though i think maxis broadband is more convenient for me to bring it anywhere anytime i want. for an example again, streaming youtube using w1max is no complaints, just play it while it buffers. w1max is faster than a wifi and any broadband line. if u having a speed problem maybe u are in the coverage, but not fully covered as in HOTSPOT. and i believe they told u to put the modem just beside the window and that does matter. if u are in coverage but still could not get the green signal, go to http://www.p1w1max.com.my check under (Am I In Coverage?) and search your address by the map, check where is the right place to face your modem, coz they have given the tips such as face your front modem according to the shown compass at the map. my place is at Bangsar which is w1max’s hotspot. so i have no trouble with the speed but at certain times yeah but not everytime. if u still have a problem with w1max, call the customer service and bash them just like my friend did until u satisfy coz at the end of the day, u are the one who’s gonna pay the bills rite? so think wise. i am loving my w1max. it just feels like terminating my maxis broadband but a bonus for maxis broadband coz i can just put it in my pocket. just my 2cents!
March 24th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
I was thinking signing up P1 also. I’m using maxis now. the speed is very very slow la. At 1st was ok, but now it’s worst than a dial up. Have made complain to maxis but they say i’m staying in a high traffic area!!! Maxis have to think how to sort out their problem ( high traffic ) rather then just tell customer they have to accept it. Install more freaking towers la.
March 25th, 2009 at 2:01 am
i’ve been approached by the P1 WIMAX dealer while having dinner at 9pm tonite & coincidentally i was looking for alternative for my wireless broadband since their performance is not to my satisfaction. I hv signed-up for packaged of RM99 after abt 1hr of convincing session (the benefits & services) by the dealer.
with eager & passion , i hurriedly to install the modem to my desktop & i left for another hour(coz by rite, it shoud being activated after 1 hour). To my surpise, after an hour there is nothing at all. (hhmmm…i feel weird during this time). ive tried to plug unplug, install & uninstalled & etc but still no connection at all.
then, i swith back to my existing wireless broadband & go to PI WIMAX website to check the availability of coverage at my area but to my great surprise, there is none at all….
waa……..why la like this…why the reseller/dealer is cheating me,why lying to me there abt my area is havg good f\signal ….?why why why….
i’ll wait until next week…if there is no changes,i’ll definately return back the modem.
March 26th, 2009 at 7:48 pm
Hi Being Cheated – Thanks for sharing your experience with P1 Wimax. I’m seriously having 2nd thoughts about signing up now!
March 26th, 2009 at 7:49 pm
Hi Hot Head – Have you considered switching to Streamyx yet? I know it isn’t the best reliable service but based on the feedback on Wimax, Streamyx still seems to be the best option!
March 26th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
Hi Pipzs – Thanks for your feedback. Perhaps the Wimax service might improve after they are fully stabilized?
April 1st, 2009 at 11:37 pm
I was sign up the p1 Wimax for more than 6 Months in Taman Melati Area. The signal is OK at begining, BUT after few months, the speed is very unstable & very slow sometimes can’t do any browsing at all (specially on NIGHT time 6pm until 12am ) . I was make many complaints to P1 customer care, but they never take action on my complaints. I pay RM99 every months but get nothing. I going to terminate the service in this 2 days. ****** P1 = Unstable Signal, no improvement , bad customer service.
April 3rd, 2009 at 7:42 pm
i’m back!
Pipzs, tsk tsk tsk you sure or not upgrading wor?? you work for wimex isit? ( no offense )hahaha… my line still lagged wor.. more than 3 weeks now wor. I called but, no one from there me got upgrading wor…i’ve been asking around all those wimex user i know but seem like we all having the same situation, slow and sometimes no internet service at all.
hi pinkelle,
me again!
Anyway, this info is 100% truth and it is not i am trying to talk bad about them.
I’ve heard that celcom is getting the 5G and was upgrading now, so this time will wait and see how it goes before i so ” stupidly ” got myself stuck with wimex for $99 per month for 1 year!
Anyone heard of this celcom 5G?
April 6th, 2009 at 9:12 pm
Hello! I’ve been using wimax since Dec 08 . All I can say the service they provide to customer is below the average i mean if there is lower than that i will vote for it. Even the celcom broadband is faster and having less problem than p1 wimax. Can u imagine i pay RM80 per month for 1Mbbs speed and get disappointed all the time. For example the light on modem is green but the speed lost in the middle of nowhere. Try to reset the modem? The result still the same. All I can say for the first 2 week trial all things goes smoothly but after that the service getting worst. But what can i do? I got 2 yrs contract for subscribing it. My experience average in 1 month usage.. 1/4 of the month really ok..and another 3/4 really misery. And by the way my usage is less than 5 gig per month and i cant even download a single file due to poor network they provide..can u imagine that?
April 7th, 2009 at 11:11 am
Hi Mato – Yikes! Thanks for your feedback! I guess there are still lots of teething problems they’re working through. Looks like my only option for broadband is now Streamyx! Sigh…
April 7th, 2009 at 11:12 am
Hi Furious Guy – Haha, I’m not working for Wimax! Am looking for a suitable broadband provider and after the bad comments I’ve been hearing, I’m having serious doubts about signing up for Wimax now!
April 7th, 2009 at 11:14 am
Hi Andy – Thanks for your comments. It does seem like all Wimax users have been very disappointed with their service!
April 14th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
pinkelle, i think you should wait if you want to sign up for wimax.. as it is very new, we cannot afford to say it is reliable. But based on the comments here, I also have doubts to sign up for wimax services.
but i saw a celcom broadband ads on the star recently, celcom offers new wireless gateway plan and it basically allows us to share the connection different from the old celcom broadband that uses usb modem.. but it ain’t come cheap.. RM139/month for 5gig fair usage policy allocation and RM299/month for unlimited fair usage policy… it says the speed is up to 3.6mbps..
wimax also offers unlimited usage allocation but only for business plan..
April 14th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
just checked the p1 website..
they offer new usb modem for wimax called wiggy
RM149/month for 10gb F.U.T.
the modem costs RM299
registration fees RM100
activation RM60
wimax on the go?
April 16th, 2009 at 12:53 am
Hi andy,
Are you manage to terminate your wimax since you only used it for six months. I also thinking to terminate my wimax after using it for four months. I am having the same problem like you. The speed will drop to very slow and unstable during at night. sometime, even slower than dial-up. The customer care is useless. I have make several complaints but no action at all. Promise to call back but never hear from them. I think the customer service is worse than the notorious streamxy.
April 19th, 2009 at 9:57 pm
i subscribe to p1 wimax the lite RM49…….
free trial very good
now i find it slower..and slowerrrrrr like a turtle
and at times no signal..
at it takes at least min 1 minute to 5 minutes to get the signal – green stable….. and its really frustration….
stimx one faster.. about 10 sec
only sucks – phone line down…
crack…that’s it….
as far as i know you may go for maxis, celcom, p1
as long as you are in malaysia – trust me…. its really horrible..
i guess sign up a lot
turnover throwing back their modem also a lot…
April 20th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
Hi Vivien – Thanks for your comment. Its hard indeed to find a good internet provider here!
April 20th, 2009 at 1:10 pm
Hi LoveHateTragedy – I heard of the same promotion on now and was seriously considering it. Unfortunately the bad feedback I’ve been receiving on Wimax is making me think many times over!
April 20th, 2009 at 1:10 pm
Hi again, Thanks for the suggestion. For now, it still seems like SCreamyx is the best bet!
April 26th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
Hi Pink,
Yesterday signed up the RM49 package for 24 months. My place was just outside the fringe of the coverage. Modem got only amber light for signal. Speed test is around DL:390-520kbps and UL:100-130kbps, Latency:70. Hopefully it will stay the same for the next 24 months.
My place no more streamyx port and have been using dial-up for the past few months at average of RM120 per month just for dial-up.
April 26th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
hi pinkelle,
sorry i think you misunderstood, i did’t mean you working for wimex.
i meant that pipzs! haha..you are nice…:-)see we don’t hear from him/she anymore…he so silent now…hahaha…well, guess i am right.
well, latest info about wimex now is worst, the stabalise is worst than ever! onnection slow down.
April 27th, 2009 at 8:01 am
Hi Steve,
Do let us know how your Wimax is performing. There seems to have been some bad reviews by some who signed up earlier.
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:52 am
WiMax is very lousy for torrenting. It seems they monitor ur bandwidth usage n cap ur bandwidth. When i asked the sales girl if they cap my band width she went on talking bout heaven knows wat (the sales ppl are so cacated technically but she is cute. so no complains. wa ha ha ha).Worse than streamyx. At least streamyx takes few hours to do dat n when they do, just reset ur modem no problem dee. I also use Maxis n damn i feel cheated. It says 7.2Mbps but speed checks show 0.4Mbps. DAmn slow if u ask me
May 4th, 2009 at 9:53 am
Hi everyone,
Been reading thru the post, looks like a lot of people been having probs with P1 also. I’ve been using this service since Aug 08, and to be honest, it’s been good for me, green signal and downloaded a lot of stuff (movies mainly) with no hiccups, all the time maxing out the 20G download limit.
But recently, since April 28th this year, the service become so crap, always on blinking red signal and if I do get a connection then it will stay on for like 10 mins max and then auto disconnect, then it will be on blinking again.
So now I’m wondering, how could a service be good for so long and now become worse than other net provider? Customers service gots no clue too, they hired the wrong people.
Very frustrated really.
May 21st, 2009 at 11:37 am
Hi all,
I had just subscribe P1 for a month. The first month experience was good, but after that, connection become very slow. Averagely i’m getting 400kbit, connection gets worse at night, but my signal LED is always in green. I had call several times to their customer service, until they told me,”…there’s nothing we can do on our end, we’ll put this into a report let the technical dept to deal with the problem, they will call you in once they get it done…” and when I ask when, they said without a time frame. That’s really upsetting. Within this month I had tried Maxis, Celcom, P1 and none of them are near my expectation, or in fact non are better SCREAMyx..What a slow nation
May 22nd, 2009 at 6:52 pm
I am a subscriber to Streamyx, P1 Wimax and Maxis Mobile Broadband. All three hv their average, bad and really bad moments…note I do not mention good moments. P1 Wimax for me is a hit and big miss experience. It was ok for the first 2-3 weeks of subscription but since then, downhill all the way. I am now abt 3.5 months into my 24 mths contract. Believe it or not, for the past 1 mth I hv no service to speak of, sometimes none whatsoever…even when the modem is showing green. According to their website I am within their zone but their help desk says I am on th edge…whatever. Hv complained to P1 and all they can offer me is one mth off the bill. Hv yet to actually see it in writing though.
June 11th, 2009 at 10:53 am
i think the problem lies because of the shared infra . Just like any other Broadband service, the more ppl hook on the same network , the slower it will be. the speed promised is the ‘port’ speed, which is at the very end point connection on the tower itself (which you cannot get..
).
So, last time we have stemix, everyone complain (even me! huhu, damm slowlah, always dc lah, blah..bla..).. siap marah2 lagi the customer service…
Now , even with the new ‘promised?’ technology, the basic still apply, the more ppl use it, the slower it will be ( Just like Highwaylahh… during raya time, all jammed pack..)
So you decidelah, because in the end, we are the one who’s going to pay!!. As for P1, my humble advice is… let them build more tower and stabilize… until that, for me, i’ll stick with my stemix (now can also go wifi.. huhu) and celcom BB..
June 13th, 2009 at 12:53 pm
To all the P1 users, I would suggest all of us to make a report to Malaysian Communication & Multimedia Commission as soon as possible as we have been cheated by P1. I have been using P1 for almost 3 months and recently the speed is ridiculously amazingly slow!!! We as a consumer must do something to protect our rights, and we’re the one who pay their salaries. If you are interested and if you can’t take it any longer, do e-mail me at vostro73@gmail.com I will collect as many complaints as possible and forward it to P1 first, then to MCMC. Thanks.
June 23rd, 2009 at 1:26 pm
June 30th, 2009 at 12:00 am
I’m using P1 also..just sign up for couple of weeks..in Ipoh,so far is good..In KL,I found that buildings may be the main failure for the signals..just try to figure out..& i totally agree as we’re in msia..broadband is sucks…!
I do hope there will be any improvement for it..
June 30th, 2009 at 1:17 am
Damn right vostro….U should let all the people know how P1 sux so bad….I’m currently still a P1 user(want to stop, but hv to pay RM999 in order to terminate service.what a rip-off).Been using it for the first month, was OK.Speed noticeably faster than streamyx except for upload to ftp(sometimes upload timed out,i can’t even maintain my website, have to go out to hotspot places in order to do that!).and currently,i cant even hv a connection to the internet.what a total rip offf……whats the point of paying P1 guys rm99/month?trying to rob me r?????cheeessseee itttt mannn….
June 30th, 2009 at 1:32 am
DO NOT BE CHEATED by WIMAX!!..i;ve been using this cursed forsaken item since march 2009.They said to gave me 15days trial…but afte a month of using…its getting crap, crappy and crappier like no signal at all..imagine without an internet connection in 3-4 days and sometimes a week. And sometimes i need to send emails urgentsly have to go to hotspots area for wifi connection….whats the use of having wimax then?better say sorry than never…..now i’m stuck with it since i can’t terminate it as they asked for me to pay a hefty rm999 according to contract..yeah right, why do i have to fulfill the contract since they can’t provide the services that they promised to me…I FEEL SO DAMN CHEATED..called their hotline Self CAre…USELESS man….even went to their jalan templer….nothing much they still need me to pay up in order to terminate bcoz they said my house(ampang) got full coverage.wtf?then explain how i can’t get signal at all, even there’s signal u wont be getting the speed at the ealier state of service.trust me i’ve tried around the house looking for right spot for the modem to be place…this is a nightmare man…
July 2nd, 2009 at 5:06 pm
Have the same problem. Been using it since August 2008. For the first few month it was fast and I was impressed and advocated WIMAX to all my friends..
Then it happened, gradually deteriorate and it peaked when they launched the stupid wiggy! Now, I could even took a shower and the darn gmail still being loaded.
Complained? I dont know how many I made through the website, but never got any reply. Calling the ‘toll free’ number is askin of calling to Jabatan Kerja Raya (you’d be lucky if someone picked).
Even if you managed to talk to someone, the first question they would always asked would be “have you pay the bill?” and the standard troubleshooting would always be “switch off the modem, wait 2-3 minutes, then switch on again, call back if you have a problem”, which of course, will put you back into the loop (no one picked the bloody phone, yadda yadda)
Luckily I only signed up for a year.. Another month to go. The bad news is, the other ISPs are equally bad!
July 3rd, 2009 at 11:42 pm
If i just want to use it for only 1 month, is it possible? because i just back from Australia and have to go back in a month..
July 5th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
Hi,
I started using P1 Wimax in April 2009. Initially the speed was very good. Could watch streaming videos without disruption. However, following their recent upgrade the speed really deteriorated. I couldn’t even connect to their own website what more do a speed test. I am in Bangsar area and the re-seller told me that there is a tower in Bangsar Village which should make the signals very strong. However, I did get in touch with the Customer Service and they did send a technician to my house. He found out that my modem was out of sync following the upgrade and replaced the modem. It seems to be working fine now except for the recent outage of their network two days ago which they were aware of.
I have another 9 months to go with my contract. If speeds remain as they are I will continue. My Daughter is thinking of getting her own broadband service and I’m thinking of asking her to sign up with Celcom (the current one with the usb stick and prepaid service). Anyone with any experience of the Celcom service? I would appreciate feedback.

Hi, just got P1 Wimax about a week back & staying on the highest floor in Vista Angkasa. My spot is just at the edge of Bukit Kerinchi coverage. Using lite package. For the time being, the service had been very good. I’m not into heavy downloading but do use torrent & Limewire & Youtube, & speed are acceptable. To me the problems lies with the resellers & customer service who does not provide ppl with accurate info or don’t even know the technical part of it. Like when I first install, it was blinking red for more than two hours which mean I didn’t get signal. Considering to call customer service till I decide to check it myself. Took out the network cable & replug. Got my connection in seconds. Do my own research after that & found about their ‘compass’ positioning, fair usage capping, QOS & other info should I ever need to optimize it. So for the time being,to me, its a good value service. I’m giving it a month trial & come back here again. Thanks Pink Elle for this blog! I’m doing review later too.

Hi there, i stay at cyberjaya and just subscribed P1 Wimax for around 2 weeks now. I can tell you out of the 14 days, at least 3 days I cann’t go online in a week after back from work…so still think whether worth the money or not…I had signed up for the 2 yeras contract. I got the red signal constantly or when I got the green signal…i still cann’t open any web pages.
I’m so charm now…sob sob

Hey everyone. I am in the trial periods of Maxis BB and Celcom BB. I am testing out both of broadband. I found out that Celcom BB is faster then Maxis BB in my location which is in Penang Island, Jalan Mount Erskine. Even both of them shows the same signal strength which only have 2 bars over 5 bars of signal.

thanks for all the feedback. i was seriously considering p1 for the company I am working with in Damansara Intan when I came across this blog. your comments surely shed some light into this matter. guess have to stick to streamyx for the time being.
July 28th, 2009 at 4:14 pm
Thanks for the info, im desperately needed an internet line.
P1 was my choice, but there lots of positive and negative comments so far….. i think i will just sit and wait few more months for it to stabablize down.
P1 does has the potential to compete with Streamyx.
Time will tell.

Hi… I just signed up yesterday. Got a week to test this thing out. Staying in aparment, level 14, Seksyen 13, Shah Alam. Today, after work I tried it out. At first 2 hours, things are really good. But then on my 3rd hour, things did not move at all. Was connected but my speed was less than 50kbs and even can get to ZERO. Then I got diconnected. I reconnected, but then it still nothing. As if I did not have any coverage at all.. Then I restart my PC and reconnect again. now things are moving, but somehow I never get that first 2 hours speed. Hmmm… I guess I will return my Wiggy this Saturday and get the full refund. I do not have time to wait like forever for things to be loaded. I don’t have so much time and now, if I need to pay for something which really sucks, better I do not pay at all. What to do. I guess we Malaysian have to accept this kind of service. Will we be able to get the speed like in Taiwan or Singapore? I guess we have to dream on…

i had signed up for P1 few months ago, same as others, initially very good, although sometimes bit slower. 2 months ago, totally can’t connect. called many times to P1, said no prob at my area, Bandar Botanic klang. ask me to try. some customer service said got prob with the base station, asked to wait, went to HQ to check the modem, no prob but they still change one new one for me. Back to test again, cannot too. called again, technician said they admit the base station has prob, waive 2 months charges for me and asked to wait. 2 months later, still cannot, called again, first said no prob. still cannot, called again and they ask to wait another 2 weeks! oh my goodness, wat kind of service is it? i asked to refund back my money, they ask me to go to HQ and not sure whether can or not.
please do not get cheated by them. bad service and can’t support with existing base station.

still using izzi even long after 1 yr contract end. thinking about jumping to wimax, but heard so many -ve feedbk. at least this izzi i’m using the signal always green here (in kelana jaya), stable, never disconnect on its own, spd quite consistent. spdtst always about 0.8-1mbps. izzi guys always call me for promotion to pay 6/12 mths auto debit so monthly charge will be less. but i prefer pay it monthly basis, easy for me to jumpe in case of izzi f* me up one day, hehe.
anyway i’m still thinking about jumping for wimax, hmm..

Hi all. I guess i’m the latest victim of WIMAX. unfortunately i signed up for the 24 months contract. Called the Customer Service almost 14 times including today. The tower is just about 450 metres from my place and i can tell u the service sucks. Practically i spend 3/4 of my time instead of being productive, positioning the stupid modem (black box). The customer service is just one stupid bunch of people. Believe it or not, i once asked to speak to their supervisor and i was made to hold almost 35 minutes only to be told that the shift supervisor is in a meeting. Tried calling Telekom directory to speak to a senior guy and believe it or not, only the careline number is listed. To me this is “robbery”. Give it a triple consideration before signing the dotted line. I have 23 months more of suffering to go

September 3rd, 2009 at 6:29 am
Hi Lim – Try calling P1 to check coverage in your area. However, I have received some negative comments on P1’s connectivity so try to obtain a test kit to test the connection first.
September 14th, 2009 at 1:47 am
P1 memang kena tgk kawasan kalau x memang problem.. before subscribe kan boleh check( green area-ok).. lagi satu modem tu kena letak berhadapan dengan tower P1 terdekat( kena amik tau la tower tu kat mana)..area saya ok je download 20GB lebih..RM99..
so overall ok..

izit p1 coverage in genting highland ?
October 13th, 2009 at 11:49 am
Hi Little Angel – I’m not sure about coverage in Gentings considering how bad it already seems to be in the city!
October 17th, 2009 at 3:41 am
hey bro…
regarding your statement on
“I also found that the P1 modem may not work if you are using a work laptop where you do not have permission to install applications. This is because the P1 modem will actually install a little application in your laptop or computer to enable it to connect so you will have to ensure that your computer allows installation of applications.”
Please make sure and check on your computer knowledge before you posting it. P1 DS-300 modems doesn’t install any software to user’s PC. BTW, it’s impossible to auto-execute a application automatically through a RJ-45 Cable or LAN.
Both P1 DS-300 & DV-230 Modems uses DHCP to allocate an IP address to user’s PC, works exactly the same with your Streamyx Modem or Maxis BB broadband or whatsoever.

as far as i’ve heard from all the comments( =P well at least 70% of them)and some comments from my friends.. yes, P1 provide better service for the first 3 months.. but, for the rest of the days. you connection will be really slow.. so for me, im not signing up for P1(as i have a thought of signing it BEFORE)i will be using streamyx but currently having problem with stupid housemate who always block my connection *sigh*
we are facing moral issue in our country, p1 booth or counter are just focusing on commission and sales, but not services. as for streamyx, yea, it maybe the best in Malaysia. but through surveys, we’re paying one of the highest bills with one of the slowest connection. this is what making us frust on searching other broadband provider but end up the same, or even worst.. sigh.. this is not a new issue, but this is our stupid government.. all we can do is sighing… maybe we should change our government =P no offense

been using all net service provider. even my mom is a ceo for a private wimax company. my humble 2 cents is ( and according to mom ),
1. subscribe to at least 2 provider
2. subsribe to the latest provider and dump them as time goes and as new provider pops up. eg, 2004streamy-2005maxis-2007celcom-2008celcom merge with stremyx-2009p1wimax etc etc.
3.”undisclosed provider”
there is some private wimax and net provider out there which is not publicly advertised their services. i.e. services to corporate and such.try call them up and try your luck. they might have some ‘lab rat’ wanted for their testing of their products.
November 16th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
Guys! No matter what was your comments, but I myself had my own findings. I can only say this…(no offence): If you sign up with P1 wimax, you will stuck on a contract for 1 or 2 years. What if anything happens to your connection or you want to change? If you sign up, you will only experience fast connection within first 3months, after the 4th month onwards, you will regreted. I don’t expect you all to trust me, just sign up with P1 and see for YOURSELF….all the best.
November 19th, 2009 at 4:42 am
Today is November 19, 2009, 3 months after i subscribed to P1. From the start I’ve experienced very slow download and upload speed but I had been patient. But now I’ve written a complaint to their careline because currently my test results show download speed of 0.46mbps and upload at 0.07mbps (poor me)which i reported to them and can you believe their customer care people ask me to screen capture the results and attach to the email and send to them.
How surprise I was with this request. First of all if I’ve an upload speed of 0.07mpbs and anyone should know that trying to attach a file to an email with that speed will take hours even though its just a small word file. And I don’t consider myself IT savvy. Some more they ask me stop using P2P application. What a dumb request. I said that is one of the reason I am subscribing to their service.Makes me wonder what kind of people are running this company. Are these ppl serious about operating a business or what? Now after doing some check (which they could have done remotely without my help)they’ve offered a waiver. Plus I leave in SS1 which is very near their head office. Makes me wonder whether WiMAX really work or not. My summary is that with stupid people trying to manage a complex technology driven business you get a company that will go bust in the near term. Sorry P1 you suck bad!!!!!
November 21st, 2009 at 10:26 pm
Recently I installed P1 in early Nov 09. The performance is very good in th first few days then lately after 1 weeks the connection is damn slow. There will always traffic jammed. Service not up to promises by P1. The most funny thing is their Self Care account can not even log in properly, needless to say the account Log in registration even worse . (if you know what i mean !!???)

P1 IS sUPER lousy…………….regret
December 15th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
anyone got the latest news on P1.. I am considering to return it to the head office tomorrow. I had a good connection for two days.. Sat and Sun as I started subscribing it on Sat afternoon. But the connection became slow gradually though you still can surf but like snails. I have 7 days cooling period.. have to return before that, don’t really want to wait how worse it can get. when i asked the customer service why my connection was quite slow this morning, she said maybe it was congested. it was monday early morning.. around 7++.. congested? really? hmm.. even my old maxis broadband is still faithful though it has it slow moments.

i hv read the above article said that celcom going to get 5G license. idiot, don’t trust it… i used celcom bb for so long time, very disappointed… better don’t use celcom. i am now using wimax, package 99. it’s great and i very satisfied with the connection speed and services very excellent. streamx is also good, but sometime stremx also throtling.. the weaknesses of streamx is the telephone line. i wonder that why TM is still keep using telephone line for streamx for so long time, it very stupid, is it their network engineer are too refuse to accept/adapting new tech??? TM must know that thier tech is now obsolete… already outdated… bye bye TM…
January 17th, 2010 at 4:47 pm
I have been using the Wiggy Wimax. Live at 12th floor, Greenpark Condo, Jalan Awan Pintal, Taman Yarl. The connection sucks. Only 20% signal the most. Need about 30mins to connect. Always disconnected. The base station only 2km away only. Worst, my Wiggy is on prepaid basis. Paid everything and now super duper lousy. Really REGRET.
January 17th, 2010 at 9:33 pm

January 29th, 2010 at 4:34 pm
I want to say that P1 Wimax Is A Shit Who Does Not Care About It’s Customers!
I am very pissed off with P1.
In August I signed up for P1 Wimax. I test runned it and within the week I found that it is not suitable for my purpose. I signed the cancellation document and told them to write the cheque to my wife or company because I do not have a bank account to deposit the refund cheque.
Despite the cancellation procedure, I still get billed. I wrote back after a few billings to tell them off them up regarding their inefficiency.
When no refund was forthcoming after the 45days was up and long after 90 days, I called customer service. Apparently there is no record of my cancellation. They probably lost my documents. They asked that I go to their office to settle this matter! (So I am being penalized for their crappy work)
I told them I want their phone number to talk to the accounts department. The call centre refused to give me the number! They want me to go there! Not satisfied, I called my Vendor in Subang Jaya and apparently I was right in that they misplaced the document.
Just few days ago, I got my cheque. Even then, they did not follow instructions despite me given WRITTEN instructions to that effect. It had my name on it and I already told them to put to my company’s or wife’s name.
Of course that got me pretty mad. I would have been neutral but because they keep fucking up and delayed my refund, I got REALLY MAD.
To me this is one FUCKED UP COMPANY who DO NOT CARE about CUSTOMER’S RELATIONS. The blocked us from reaching administration and customer service so that the directors can sit on their cushy chairs and let the customers be. I am totally pissed off!

p1 wimax services really sux even 1 yr after your blog review. it still dc. i m cheated by the stupid p1 reseller who said “if green zone, GUARANTEED no problem. SO FAR NO PPL COMPLAINT”. FCKING LIER!
p1 sux big time.
February 18th, 2010 at 10:04 pm
They are a bunch of jokers. Registered about a week ago, hardly could get connection. Phone their Careline and the boy had the cheek to ask if I’m sure I’m within coverage. That’s a smart question since they have taken the money and my ‘data’ is in their system. When I started to get pissed, the boy hung up the phone. Big regret!!
March 16th, 2010 at 3:58 pm
P1 W1MAX always having connection too slow / interruption problem.
March 24th, 2010 at 5:20 pm
wimax and other broadband service provider have a policy to throttle down your internet connection speed in order to reserved their global bandwidth (source from wimax agent). so stay off from visiting p2p webpage and installing p2p client on ur pc.
March 29th, 2010 at 11:30 pm
P1 is sux!!!!
April 5th, 2010 at 9:32 pm
Average speed for wimax? for 99?
April 22nd, 2010 at 11:31 am
Bought myself the wiggy prepaid from p1 recently. Sorely dissapointed. At times the speed is acceptable but most of the time I am unable to connect to the net at all. *Shrug*
May 7th, 2010 at 11:09 am
i regret about the pi wimax.how slow they are with the st*p*d agent.want my money, want the commision, then lie to me. pi wimax is lying. i hate pi wimax.
June 3rd, 2010 at 11:29 pm
i am going to surrender my P1 very soon , that all i need to said
July 14th, 2010 at 8:23 pm
i’m regreting that i subscribe P1 as well.the room i’m staying now was facing the mountain so maxis and digi broadband doesn’t have any coverage at all.when i heard bout P1 last year,i decided to tried it out and the line was pretty smooth, not to mention, the speed was pretty fast.but then, when i came back this month,i couldn’t connect to internet at all all the only answer i could get when i call the customer service was “it’s because your place was at the border line of P1 coverage’.it’s pretty ridiculous because if this is the case, how come i can get good connection for like almost 1 year without having any problem??i sign 2 years contract with them and anyone have any idea how to cancel it?
