I have always heard of the famous Westin Heavenly Bed® which is specially designed for a blissful night of rest. So when I had the opportunity to stay at the Westin KL, I leapt at it.

Westin KL is located on the busy Jalan Bukit Bintang with the lobby right opposite Pavilion KL which makes it a hotel of choice for lots of tourists. If you are driving, the parking can be a little difficult to get to from Jalan Bukit Bintang and it will be advisable to access it through the Ritz Carlton KL.

The Westin KL hotel lobby isn’t a very big lobby and is set in a stylish and contemporary design. They always have two pitchers of Orange & Mint and Peach & Strawberry elixirs at the entrance for their guests to refresh themselves in the hot and humid KL weather. Because of the small lobby, it can sometimes be a little crowded especially if there are a high number of guests around. When we stayed there, there was some big wedding going on in the hotel and the whole lobby was so crowded with people that it felt like a “pasar malam” (night market)! Not quite the atmosphere I expected from a 5-star hotel!

There are 4 speed lifts servicing the rooms and rooms can only be accessed when you slot your hotel card to select the floor you want. I was a little surprised when I walked into the Westin room as it somehow did not have the 5-star room feel to it. It was, however, quite spacious with a little day bed by the window and a writing desk. I was also surprised to see that their TV was not a flat screen TV like those I was accustomed to seeing in lesser hotels abroad.

What made the stay extra nice was a lovely hamper of goodies courtesy of the Valiram family who are behind the luxury brand, Coach, in Malaysia! The family was having a wedding with festivities that stretched over 5 days in various luxury hotels in Kuala Lumpur and had very generously given all guests in those hotels a nice little hamper! :)

And what about the famous Heavenly Bed?! When I finally crawled into it in the wee hours of the morning, I felt that it was a little overly hyped up or perhaps my expectations were too high! It was comfortable and firm although a little too soft on the top for my liking. Nevertheless, it was one of the better beds I have slept in hotel rooms and it did provide a comfortable night’s rest. Plus it was a king size which meant lots of room :) Just the way I like it!

I also really liked the smaller pillow they included in their many pillows which doubled up as a really comfortable bolster for me! :)

One grouse I did have about the room was the fact that their air conditioning was just too hot! Even after adjusting the temperature, the air was so warm that I ended up waking up throughout the night. Although their bathroom was relatively large, the tub and shower area was rather small and I was surprised to see that the room did not have a rain shower like most 5-star hotels do.

Another major grouse I had about the Westin Hotel parking is that all guests, even hotel guests, are charged for the parking! The only difference is that hotel guests are charged a flat RM8 for their stay whilst those who dine in their restaurants will be eligible for free parking for the first 2 hours. We were not given proper guidance on the parking and were led to mistakenly believe that whatever parking we had incurred whilst going in and out during our stay will be reimbursed by the hotel. Instead, if you are a guest, you have to constantly validate your ticket at the hotel Concierge to ensure that you only pay the flat RM8 before you exit. Do be careful to do this if you are a guest as we were only told this after we checked out and were not allowed to reimburse the additional parking charges we had paid during our stay.

Will I stay there again? I’m not sure. The parking and room somehow does not bring the same “Ooh” factor I used to get with 5-star hotel rooms. Nevertheless it is located in a fantastic location if you are looking at getting some shopping done on Jalan Bukit Bintang – KL’s famous shopping mall street.
