Bangsar has recently undergone some changes. While it used to be a hip and trendy place with lots of cafes and restaurants, there are now a large number of Indian restaurants found there to cater to the growing Indian expatriate crowd. One such restaurant is Indian Kitchen which is right on Jalan Telawi 3. It is a clean and spacious restaurant with comfortable booth chairs and normal tables to cater for any type of crowd. Al-fresco dining is also available outside with several small tables to cater for diners who enjoy people-watching and a cigarette break.

Indian Kitchen Restaurant promises to offer the finest authentic Southern and Northern Indian cooking in Kuala Lumpur. They claim to provide fresh cuisine right out of the kitchen, just as how you would experience it in India! Some recommended food by The Star included their Pesarattu Thosai which is a thosai stuffed with onion, chillies, spinach and tomato to provide a hearty meal.

We recently went there for a group lunch and preordered their special value set meal priced at RM10 with a lime juice. We had approximately 20 pax and while they were initially a little overwhelmed, the service wasn’t too bad and we were able to get our food and drinks quite quickly.

The lime juice was quite thick and served in big mugs. I was very pleased by that as juices in a set often come in the smallest glasses possible! However, it tended to be a little on the sweet side. The set meal we tried has rice served with pepper chicken masala, fish fry, boiled egg, kang kong stir fry and mix vege salad. You can have it on its own for RM8 or add on a lime juice for RM10. When they served us, I was reminded of hospital trays as we were served on segmented plates with a section for each dish! The rice was served in a little cute steel pot and I found it a really huge portion which should be enough to feed two small eaters.

There was quite a lot of food for RM8 but generally the dishes tended to be really spicy which some of us didn’t find too suitable. The fish was served in a tiny portion and was mainly broken up pieces of fried fish in a spicy sauce which was too spicy for most of us. Nevertheless, the food for the price we paid was overall quite worthwhile and it made for a very filling lunch.

I noticed that their set lunch was rather popular as it isn’t easy to find cheap food especially in the Bangsar area during lunch. If you are interested in trying Indian food for a reasonable price, come over to Indian Kitchen between 12pm to 3pm to enjoy their value set lunch.
