Trying the Tempur Mattress

We’ve been mattress shopping and I personally believe that a good mattress is essential simply because you will be sleeping on it all your life. I also believe that a good sleep is the best way to start your day. I never knew that looking for a mattress would be so difficult!

The fiance came across the Tempur-pedic mattress in Singapore and has been in love with it since. I saw their demonstration with 2 ball bearings and honestly, it is rather impressive how a ball bearing resting on the mattress does not even move when the second one is dropped next to it. Tempur’s secret to achieving this is their high-tech comfort material which was originally developed by NASA for the US Space Program. This special material has unique pressure reliving properties which allow your body to rest in its natural tension free state, hence guaranteeing a good and uninterrupted sleep.

We were told by the salesperson that the Tempur material was visco-elastic material that slowly yields under pressure to mould to the body. This provides a feeling of weightlessness whilst sleeping and has been proven to reduce back pain. It is also turn-free which eliminates the need to constantly flip the mattress to redistribute the springs and provide more comfort. It has been proven to be so effective that even healthcare experts are recommending it to their patients with back problems.

The only downside to the Tempur mattress is of course its price. With all these properties, the Tempur-pedic mattress does not come cheap. The highest end one I saw for a king-sized bed retails at over RM70,000!! A normal queen-sized mattress is already close to RM10,000!

As a personal preference, I tend to prefer hard and firm mattresses and I found that the Tempur was a little too soft for me due to its foam-like properties. I did not like the fact that I sank into the mattress when I tried sitting or lying on it.

Has anyone tried the Tempur mattress before? What do you think of it?
