My Eyesight Improved with Pinhole Glasses
I had Lasik surgery done on my eyes a few years back to cure my astigmatism and short sightedness. It worked really well and I was so happy to have perfect vision and to wear stylish sunglasses. However, recently, I’ve noticed that my eyesight has deteriorated. I suspect it could be eyestrain due to too many hours at the computer. It really irritates me because I feel like I’m in a blurry world whenever the lighting isn’t clear.
A friend who went for similar Lasik surgery recommended trying pinhole glasses whenever I was at home to improve my eyesight. She had tried them before and found that her eyesight improved further with those glasses after her Lasik operation. Since it was non-invasive and absolutely natural, I decided to give it a try.
If you don’t know what pinhole glasses look like, take a peek after the jump!

My pinhole glasses arrived and I was amazed when I put them on. Suddenly the focus of everything around me sharpened and the colours on the TV and computer screen appeared brighter and sharper! I was pretty impressed!
Pinhole glasses are not prescription glasses. They do not use lenses to improve vision but work by feeding the pupil with direct rays as far as possible. This reduces distortion of the images you see which provides sharper and better vision. Through blocking rays that cause diffraction and reducing the distance between objects, it actually helps people suffering from myopia and astigmatism see better and hence, improve their vision over time. For those of us who are constantly at the computer, they help to reduce the amount of radiation that enters the eyes and reduce eye strain by limiting the stress your eyes face by having to focus on the computer screen.
The highly popular Bates Method from which the concept of pinhole glasses came from recommends replacing your normal prescription glasses with the pinhole glasses whenever you read, watch TV or use the computer to prevent eyestrain and to assist with vision improvement.
Warning: The pinhole glasses tends to block your peripheral vision so only use it when in stable environments. Do not use it while driving.
I have been trying them every night and even my dad who wears high powered prescription glasses was amazed at how sharp his vision was when he tried them on while watching TV. Hopefully with prolonged use, my vision will improve back to its perfect state after my Lasik operation!

@ailing: Hi Ailing, I haven’t been too hardworking with wearing them but I do find that my vision has improved with them as I believe it cuts down the strain of reading and watching TV. You can purchase the glasses from the link in my post or even in your local Guardian stores. I have seen them being sold before.
