I used to be an avid diver and friends used to ask how I could pursue that sport when I was well-known for avoiding the sun whenever I could! My secret then was Sunplay Sunblock in nothing less than SPF130+!

It was the sunblock with the highest SPF I had ever seen in the market and although experts tell us that they are unable to guarantee better benefits for sunblocks above SPF30, I always still go for high SPF sunblock…just in case! ;)

It comes from Taiwan and is apparently hugely popular amongst the sun-fearing Japanese. It comes in a cute little bottle of approximately 35gms which comes with a little screw top cap and nozzle. I liked that as it made application easy and prevented the sand from getting into the sunblock bottle. The sunblock here is a very watery white liquid. In fact, it is so watery that you don’t even have to squeeze the nozzle to get the sunblock on your hands! It has a certain distinctive smell but it isn’t as strong as some other sunblock brands such as Coppertone. Thanks to its watery nature, it makes very easy application all over and one small bottle can last surprisingly long.

However, I’ve stopped using Sunplay sunblock after I read that it tends to clog pores. I also found that it was rather hard to wash off in the shower and tended to leave a residue behind. For me, a sunblock that does that can’t be very good for my easily blocked pores!

If you do wish to try it out, it’s easily available in Guardian and Watson pharmacies. It used to retail at RM35 but I believe the prices have dropped and you can easily get it for less than RM30 now.

Whatever brand you choose to use, never forget sunblock when you leave your house! Your skin will thank you!
