I used to have very high astigmatism and short sightedness power ever since I was in my teens. I used to really admire those who could wear nice stylish sunglasses while I had to contend with my sunglasses clip-ons on my thick spectacles. However, all that changed when I went for my life-changing Lasik surgery treatment.

I did my Lasik surgery with Optimax Eye Specialist in Kuala Lumpur. It is a highly professional and established eye surgery centre staffed with excellent and very experienced optometrists. My Lasik process started with a thorough check up to determine if I was a suitable Lasik candidate. My eyes had to be dilated for that check up to obtain an accurate reading of my power. It was a little uncomfortable as my eyes had trouble focusing and became very sensitive to light. After the series of tests were done, my next appointment for the surgery was set.

On surgery day, you are advised to avoid wearing any form of eye make up or perfume as perfume could actually affect the Lasik machine. You will be rigged up in blue scrubs, shower cap and coverings for your shoes as your eyes are dilated again and anesthetized for the Lasik procedure. Once your eyes are ready, you will be helped to the operation theatre and asked to lie on a cold metal bed. Honestly, it was a pretty scary experience as it feels exactly like an operation! However, the staff were really friendly and comforting which was a big help.

Some sticky tape is placed around your eye area to keep it open while they further open it with some instruments so it wouldn’t accidentally close during the procedure. The whole process starts when the machine cuts your corneal flap which is painless, thanks to the anesthetic. Do be prepared, however, for a brief moment of total darkness during the cutting. The surgeon will then lift the flap and your entire vision will go blurry. You will then be asked to concentrate on a red light right above you as the Lasik machine starts to laser your retina. Don’t be shocked either to smell a slight burning smell as it is all part of the procedure.

It feels like an eternity but it is actually over in just a few minutes and before long, you are back out in the waiting room. Once you are comfortable, you will be guided to your friend or relative to be brought home and given a treatment of antibiotic drops and eyedrops to hydrate your eyes.

Within 3 days, I had almost perfect vision, thanks to Lasik and Optimax!

Optimax does a good job in explaining the entire procedure in detail and answering all questions you have to alleviate the nervousness every patient has. They follow it up with an excellent free follow-up service on the day after, week after and every month after your procedure for as long as a year until you are discharged. I was really happy with their services and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a reputable and reliable Lasik eye surgeon.
