I had a craving for fried chicken last week despite trying to be on a healthy diet. I was supposed to meet sis for dinner but was terribly hungry so I decided to get a snack to tide me over. I decided to take a walk around Carrefour, Midvalley to see if there was anything for offer since the Muslims were breaking fast soon. Carrefour Midvalley has 2 entrances, one closer to McDonald’s which leads straight to the food section and the other near Speedy Video where they usually display things on promotion like bunk beds or containers. Previously, if you walk further down, it used to be handphone booths but I noticed that they were now little stalls selling all kinds of food from fried economy (read: nothing inside) noodles, Indian rojak, drinks and snacks. I was wondering what to get when this sign caught my attention:

Those of you who are regular pasar malam goers will surely recognise the smell and sight of this! It’s a franchise business that sells fried boneless chicken chops that are seasoned with a mixture of seasonings then eaten as a snack. I think it retails for RM4.50 in the pasar malam but here in Carrefour, it retails for RM5, probably to cover their rental.

The chicken chop is fried in hot oil and is a fairly big piece for RM5. According to their sign, they use only chicken breast that is skinned with the fat removed then breaded in their special mixture. Hopefully, that makes it a wee bit healthier though it’s fried! Once fried, they snip it up into pieces and sprinkle a mixture of seasoning on it, a little like the Maggi seasoning followed by sprinkles of chilli powder if requested.

It smelt and tasted quite good but was on the salty side, which isn’t surprising considering the amount of seasoning sprinkled on it! There was also a rather strong Ajinomoto taste which is probably what the seasoning is made out of. It’s something that’ll probably go really well with beer or drinks but on it’s own, Uncle Bob Fried Chicken is a bit too salty and on the steep side. Plus, the woman who served me had a really black face so that’s another thumbs down for this particular stall! :P
