Tips To Saving On Food
Have you ever found yourself in Isetan KLCC or Lot 10 and Jusco around 8pm? If you are there, make a bee-line to their cooked food counter because that’s when their cooked food starts getting discounted!
I used to see lots of this when I was in Australia. Coles supermarket used to slowly start marking down their fresh and cooked food from around 6pm and once I actually saw a loaf of bread getting progressively marked down from $1.50 all the way to $0.50 by 10pm! The health and food laws are very strict in Australia and when they start marking down their “less fresh” produce, students who aren’t too particular often benefit from picking up perfectly good items at a discounted price.
I’m glad to see the foreign chain of supermarkets here have started doing that too. Often, it’s food that was cooked on the morning or afternoon but since they aren’t allowed to resell it the next day, it only makes sense for them to mark it down just to clear their stock. It helps reduce wastage too as the food doesn’t end up in the bin. Some of their discounts can be really good like 50% off bento sets where you would originally pay close to RM15 for. It makes a great late dinner or supper snack at a good price too! In fact, I’ve actually seen customers pressuring the Jusco staff to reduce their skewered Japanese yakitori products around 8.30pm!
So if you’re looking for a late dinner or supper, don’t forget to try the food section of these supermarkets!
It’s a great way to save some money on food!
