The Royal London Circus
I recently went for the Royal London Circus with J. I heard that the circus was in town and in a nostalgic moment of reliving my childhood, I dragged him off to the circus with me. It was held in an open area in Puchong and full of people! That was rather surprising to me as I thought that most Malaysians weren’t very keen on seeing something like a circus. There were parents with their children, whole families and some young adults like us who were probably trying to relive their childhood too!
I hadn’t been to a circus in very many years and having to perch on a rickety plastic chair over the wooden slates under the Big Top only added to the anticipation of seeing the show! They had quite a number of acts but sadly not as many wild animals as I expected. the only animals they had was a little elephant which played ball and a pony, dog and monkey trio who could ride on top of each other as the pony galloped around the ring! The trapeze artistes were really good as well and there were a few heart-stopping moments as the crowd went “ooh” and “aah” at their acts!
I used to have a little routine whenever I went to a circus as a kid. My dad used to buy me cotton candy and popcorn before the show and J was kind enough to indulge me with a huge lurid pink cotton candy on a stick! Unfortunately where the memory is strong, the tastebuds have changed and I found it terribly sweet but for the sake of nostalgia, finished it off and ended up on a terrible sugar high which left me bouncing off walls! Not quite the right thing for a circus but I suppose it’ll go really well if I was watching an exciting game like the Penn State football game where I have to cheer and bogey around with the crowd!
It was a very enjoyable night, nonetheless and a great way to recapture my childhood circus memories! All throughout the circus, I couldn’t help thinking of the book Mr Galliano’s circus which I grew up reading.
Can’t wait for the next circus to come to town again!
