Pama Instant Kua Teow
I don’t normally eat instant noodles but every now and then I get a terrible hankering for them, especially after the super yummy Nissin noodles. So one afternoon when I didn’t know what else to eat from the mall, I headed towards Carrefour and found myself wandering around the instant noodle aisle and this bright green cup caught my eye.
I’ve always liked instant noodles from Thailand. I like how they have options of vermicelli and kuey teow which I find better options compared to the pre-fried instant noodle cake. Plus their soup base seems to have that certain spicy zing to it which normal brands like Maggi lacks. So with nothing else in mind for lunch, I picked up one to try.
It comes with its own little disposable fork which refuses to straighten, the usual packets of condiments and a small cake of dried kuey teow. Amazing how much they can fit into one little cup! Instructions said to dump everything in, add boiling water and wait 5 minutes. I did just that and in 5 minutes, voila! A hot lunch with its own little bits of dehydrated vege!
Initially I thought it tasted a little bland but that could have been because I didn’t add all the seasoning and garlic oil (MSG fears) but when I stirred it up, it tasted much better as I think most of the seasoning fell to the bottom. The kuey teow was surprisingly pretty good and soft, almost as nice as the hawker’s kuey teow although it had been dehydrated!
Overall, it wasn’t too bad except it didn’t have any other form of protein inside. Nice to indulge in occasionally but not too often, otherwise I’ll probably be bald from all that salt and MSG!
