Teppanyaki - SUCKS!

Last week I met a friend at Teppanyaki, MidValley for dinner as we were both having a hankering for some teppanyaki. The trick about this place is that you must always try to secure a seat on the table right in front despite their efforts to push you into the back. Otherwise you’ll come out smelling like a stale cooker hood.

First things first, it’s quite rarely when I rant about food. Normally I’m quite a happy camper when it comes to eating things I’m craving for. However, this place really gets the thumbs down from me.

  1. The servers are mighty rude. They glare at you without a smile when you ask for a seat and always very rudely try to shove you at the back.

  2. That day we were there, they roughly plonked our plates of rice down in front of us as if we were some prisoners. Hello…we’re paying customers! And when my friend asked for her favourite pickles, they just said we ran out, no apologies what so ever.

  3. We ordered the beef set. The man brought over the beef really messily, spilling it all around my plate and when we took a closer look, found that it was undercooked in most of the pieces. When we asked for them to cook it a little longer, he messily scooped it up again to the griddle, dropping some pieces on the way.

  4. Ditto for the vege. My plate was starting to resemble a dog’s dinner and I hadn’t even started eating!

  5. The beef ended up being terribly tough and we couldn’t really finish our dinner.

  6. We had hot green tea which amazingly ended up into brown tea halfway through the refills, then turned back into green tea.

We paid approximately RM13 each for this terrible dinner. Will we be back? Definitely not! So I would definitely appreciate any recommendations for good teppanyaki! Thanks!

the actual good teppanyaki are much more expensive

PE says: I agree but even as a franchise there should be some standards of quality of that should be maintained!

Thats just quite sad to hear.. but have you been to any nice authentic Teppanyaki restaurant ? I thought they were all like that, although i must say usually the service is better some where else

PE says: Hi, welcome! :) Yes I’ve been to some authentic Teppanyaki restaurants and although they’re flinging food all over the place to cook them, they don’t create a mess of the customer’s plate or table!

Overpriced low-quality food. I agree wholeheartedly.

PE says: Thanks for dropping by Pablo, I’m honoured! :) But yeah, they’re a waste of time and money! A real embarrassment to Teppanyaki!

Assuming u’re refering to the one in LG:
I was looking for their website when i bumped into ur comment. 100% agreed!! I was a great fan of this particular outlet. Well manered staffs, good service, good value + quality for money. I even recommended friends to actually try it (ESPECIALLY this one outlet)….

Then last year i came as usual; And all of the above happened. Plus more, both my wife and I saw obvious and distinct biasness towards malay customers! My visit last year? place was packed, mostly with malays; And we waited there without anyone serving (despite numerous calls) us. Even several malay customers who came in AFTER us got to give their orders. We went exclaiming pretty loudly how bad the service was, and all of the staffs just stared… no apologies, nothing!

Just today, thinkin that there shud be some improvements, we went again. Again, very obvious bias! My meat portion was significantly smaller than a malay lady (small built for that matter) and yet she still gets the ‘leftovers’!!! And worse of all, the malay girl in front of the cook eating NOODLES, got a huge chunk of the vege that was meant for the rice dishes!!

What happened to this outlet??? How can such a drastic drop in quality in every sense go unresolved? Utterly, utterly disapointed! Who can get me the contact to their management / HQ? I would really like to have a chat with their PR.

PE says: Thanks for your comment. Yes it’s the LG one. I have never been back there since and I’m surprised to see it still packed sometimes. You should definitely take it up with the Management. I’m not sure who owns it though…perhaps checking with the outlet can help.
