I was given the Motorola L6 last Christmas after my old phone threatened to commit suicide on me. It was a very nice gift indeed and very timely too as my old phone was so extinct people were calling it “The Brick” for short.

I was a Nokia user so having to switch from idiot-proof Nokia to Motorola was initially quite difficult. Plus my old Nokia was top of its range for its time while the Motorola was a lower spec phone. Some yays and nays about the L6:

Yays:

  • It’s very very slim. So slim and light that you hardly realise it’s there sometimes and I’m perpetually losing it in my bag!
  • The buttons are easy to press and slightly bigger than my previous Nokia ones. It can still be challenge for fat fingers though! :P
  • The dictionary is actually quite good and texting, once you’re used to it, can be done quite quickly.
  • Nice bright screen with cute little icons.
  • It comes with a video recorder so you can record stuff quietly without people realising it! :P
  • I haven’t really tried the games but they’re funky Java-powered games which are definitely more advanced than my old Nokia.
  • Very good technical support and Help site. I learnt lots from that Help site!

Nays:

  • I find it quite difficult to scroll through the symbols when I’m looking for a symbol to use in my text message. My previous Nokia used to display symbols in a table which made it much easier.
  • No delivery report. You have to select a delivery report option for each new message that you send. Otherwise you have to go to the Sent folder and see if your message has a tick indicating that it has sent.
  • I liked how my old Nokia flashed its delivery report. This displays it as an incoming text message. Apparently I was told that this depends on the service provider but I doubt it as I’ve been using the same service provider and most of the reports come in a new text message except for my old Nokia.
  • Not very sharp camera but it’s an improvement over my old Nokia so hmm..perhaps this should be a Yay!

Overall, it’s quite a nifty little phone if you’re looking for one that does mostly the basics. No surer sign of knowing you’re getting older when you leave the funky PDA phones for the younger kids to play with and look for one which does the usual call, receive, sms and take pictures!
